Please tell us what made you join SHIP and why?
At my previous job, I worked with the company CEO, Mr. Ienaga, for about half a year, as if we were switching places. Even after I retired from my previous job, I continued to work with Mr Ienaga as a side job. and we continued to work together. Under the circumstances, I received an invitation to join SHIP and decided to join immediately.
Please tell us about your current work.
We build web applications using languages such as PHP and Ruby. The frameworks we use are Laravel and Rails.
I'm an infrastructure engineer, so my main job is building and managing AWS and VPS servers. Development environments include Terraform, Ansible, and Server less Framework.
Do you believe that you have grown personally through your work?
I'm currently in the process of building my own infrastructure service, and I'm wondering what services I should use to build it. What features should I include? I am learning how to use tools (grafana, Prometheus) that I am using for the first time, and I feel like I am growing every day.
How is the atmosphere like at SHIP?
I basically work alone in Fukuoka, but when I go on business trips to the Oita office, there are a lot of people from overseas, so it feels like a global company. At drinking parties, there were times when only Mr. Ienaga (CEO) and I were the only Japanese (lol), and there were people from not only English-speaking countries, but also from Vietnam and Nepal, so we had people from all over the world. In this company you will be able to think about things from a broader perspective.
Finally, what are your current challenges?
Every day is a challenge as I am taking on new tasks and acquiring new knowledge. Up until now, I've mostly been managing existing servers, but now I'm also starting up a new server in the development of 01, linking servers and apps, and making it possible to add functions to apps. I've been able to experience work life that is different from what I was used to. In terms of personal challenges, I started attending English conversation classes because I had the opportunity to meet people from overseas after joining the company. I watch foreign dramas and use English apps, so I can now listen at a casual conversation level.
